Shoe advice at Runnersworld

Runnersworld Nijmegen

Runnersworld Nijmegen

Ella is running since January 2019 and Geert has recently picked running up again. We were both ready for a good pair of new shoes, so we made an appointment at Runnersworld in Nijmegen. Read in this blog about how this professional advice for choosing the right running shoe went and which shoes we chose and why.

As you have been able to read and see in previous blogs and on our social channels, the running virus has caught Ella well. She cu runs between 5 and 10 kilometers 3-4 times a week and would prefer to run every day. But the body also needs to rest and not be continuously burdened, so a day's rest every now and then is good. Geert rarely ran after his hip operation, it was difficult. But due to the many hikes in recent months, during which many kilometers and vertical meters have been made, he became stronger. Geert now also runs twice a week, between 5 and 8 kilometers at an easy pace.

Brand independent

Runnersworld is truly brand independent and you can choose from a wide range of shoes

Following Geert’s advice, Ella had already had good shoes fitted through Runnersworld in 2020 and she has been running the New Balance Vongo 4 for over a year now. But when you make your meters, shoes wear out and so it was time for a pair of new ones. And that also applied to Geert, now that he is serious again, good shoes are essential. Both for a good walking pattern and to prevent injuries. Because the previous advice from Runnersworld was very good for Ella, we had again scheduled appointments for running shoe advice, this time at Runnersworld in Nijmegen. We had scheduled our appointments for Thursday May 20th 2021 and we reported in the store at the end of the morning.

The running shoe advice is mainly done by Mathijs at Runnersworld in Nijmegen. Mathijs is an experienced runner himself and currently does triathlons, especially the shorter distances. Mathijs first started with Ella. He really takes the time for you and asks all kinds of questions that gives him an idea of your sporting background, how often you run, what your ambitions are and how you experience running. And with Ella, it was an advantage that she brought her shoes from Runnersworld's previous advice.

Test track

You can test every potential shoe at the test track in store.

Based on this, Mathijs selected a number of shoes that Ella was allowed to try. The first shoe was in line with her current shoe, a logical choice. To give good advice, Mathijs checks after putting on the shoes whether the fit is good. Then you walk back and forth on the test track in the store a number of times. Mathijs makes a few slow motion videos and also takes a good look at the running pattern. The great thing is that on the videos you can see exactly what happens with your running pattern, your landing and take-off and what the effect of the shoe is on your running and what the effect of your running is on the shoe. But before showing the video, he first asks how you experience and feel the shoe. And only then the video is shown and an analysis made of the shoe in question. The first shoe felt good for Ella, but Mathijs wanted to try a few more shoes to see how they felt and what the analysis was. In the end, there were two pairs of potential shoes that Ella was going to choose from. The final choice for Ella was the Adidas Ultraboost 21, which was also the first shoe she tried.

After Ella it was Geert's turn. Geert had brought his favorite hiking shoe because it walks and fits the best. Based on this shoe and the answers Geert gave to Mathijs's questions, Mathijs chose a first, as he called it, neutral shoe. On the basis of the analysis, it quickly became clear that this was not the right direction. It turns out that Geert has a strong pronation, the foot tends to sink in after landing, this was clearly visible on the slow motion video. Then a shoe with good support under the foot is necessary. Mathijs chose two shoes that fit this profile well and Geert eventually tried them out extensively and Mathijs analyzed them. Runnersworld Nijmegen also offers the possibility to take a short run outside to get an extra feeling of the shoe. After doing this, Geert finally opted for the Asics GT-4000.

After choosing the shoes, we also selected some accessories, for example Ella wanted a belt with small bottles for the long run that she does once a week. In addition, we talked about training schedules for running a certain distance. We now have this ambition and will work towards 2022, but more about that on this website soon.

At the end of our visit, we left very satisfied with both the right running shoe and a very good feeling about the advice. Mathijs helped us very well, he took the time for us, asked the right questions to get a good picture of us and we really got the feeling that the advice was tailor-made for us. And that is also the strength at Runnersworld, the advice they give is truly brand independent. The requirements and needs of the customer are central and the right running shoe is advised. And that is also done with a lot of expertise and full attention to the customer. Ella already had positive experiences with Runnersworld, and these have been fully confirmed. For our running shoe advice, advice for training and all other things, from now on we will go to Runnersworld Nijmegen and Mathijs in particular.

We advise anyone who is serious about running not to do this on tennis shoes, cross trainers or other non-specific running shoes. Go to Runnersworld, let the experts advise you and invest in the right shoe. Everyone who is serious about running always benefits from this.
